The Chartreuse Massif was made a Regional Nature Park in 1995 in recognition of its natural beauty and cultural heritage. It's a beautiful hiking arena - with some of the finest landscapes in the French Alps. Owing to its unique topographical features, the area is well suited to day-hikes and 2-day trips. There are a handful of highly acclaimed local walks which start right outside the front door and take you tthrough deep forest, alpine meadow and into & beyond the limestone cliffs; Dent des Crolles, l'Alpe, Chamechaude and Grande Sure to name just a few. There is a wealth of information on the internet about walks in the region, including the comprehensive Walking Guide to Chartreuse by John Gardner available at http://www.braemoor.co.uk/chartreuse/.
